After 26 years of sponsorship, Shell announces it’s ending its relationship with the Houston Open golf tournament in April 2017, citing the unstable energy market that has many drillers cutting costs.

Annually, the tournament drew thousands of golfers and oil executives entertaining clients. The relationship with the Houston Golf Association and the PGA Tour brought millions to local charities and youth organizations.

Shell sent a press release, stating, “These programs have had a significant and lasting impact on our community. We could not be more proud of what we have accomplished together, and we wish the HGA, the PGA TOUR and the many charitable organizations they support the greatest success in the future.”
